Scholarship Program
Scholarship Winners: 2003 - 2004: click HERE
The Connecticut Food Foundation is proud to announce the scholarship
recipients for the academic year 2003-04. This year we received
over 250 application requests from employees representing over 30
different member companies.
We extend our congratulations and best wishes
for a successful year to the winners!
The CT Food Foundation offers a scholarship
based solely on academic merit, and a scholarship based on a combination
of grades and community service, allowing candidates that ave a
strong community involvement background but lower grades to still
be in contention for an award. To ensure impartiality, a committee
put together by the outside company hired to administrate the program
reviews the applications and selects the winners.
Piggybacking allows member companies to award
scholarships to their employees without having to set up their own
foundation, and guarantees that an applicant from their company
is awarded their scholarship.
If you would like further information about
the scholarship program, piggybacking, or sponsoring a scholarship,
please contact the CFA at (860) 677-8097.
Some Frequently Asked Questions...
What are the criteria to apply?
Those eligible to apply are high school seniors, college freshmen,
sophomores, and juniors who are:
- Sons and daughters of full-time employees of firms which are members
in good standing of the Connecticut Food Association. The parent-employee
must either work at a Connecticut location or reside in Connecticut,
and have been employed by the member firm for at least one year
as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarships are awarded.
- Part-time employees who are full-time students employed by firms
that are members of the CFA. The applicant must either work at a
Connecticut location or reside in Connecticut, and have been employed
by the member firm for at least one year as of January 1 of the
year in which the scholarships are awarded.
NOTE: The applicant or parent-employee must still
be employed by a dues-paying member of the Connecticut Food Association
at the time the awards are announced.
How does the application process work?
Applicants send in the self-addressed postcards provided on the
scholarship posters distributed to member companies at the start
of the eligibility period (around January 15). The postcards are
received at the CFA office and applications are mailed to the applicants.
All required materials and supporting documentation must be postmarked
by April 1 and are sent directly to the scholarship administrators.
Winners are announced around May 15.
Do I have to reapply every year?
Yes; currently, scholarships are 1-year non-renewable awards.
How can my company get involved?
Call the CFA with your questions or to request a promotional or
piggybacking brochure, or to sponsor a scholarship. We can also
arrange to have a Foundation board member make a presentation at
your next management or directors meeting. Donations are always
welcomed and are tax-deductible, and you can help support the Foundation’s
fundraising efforts by participating in our annual Silent Auction,
either as a bidder or as a donor company.
